Australiana

In honour of Australia Day coming up on the 26th January, I thought I’d round up a few of my favourite Australiana products out in the design world at the moment, as well as those classic pieces that gently state where they still call home.

Although I am sure I have shown you this before, I still abso love the Corro Bowl from Sydney-based design collective, Design By Them. Distinctly Australian, it is formed from polished corrugated stainless steel, synonymous with both rural and contemporary Australian architectural vernacular. There aren’t many of their products that I don’t lust after.

To help you celebrate your Aussie Day in style, check out the range of outdoor products by local Victorian sisters, MOZI. Be quick - they have a sale on now.

Hard To Find always have a huge range of quirky products for out-and-about to Aussie Day BBQs or fireworks. Of course their assorted boutique homewares can get you in a celebratory mood for any occasion.

How can I do Australiana without a bit of Florence Broadhurst, surely an icon in Australian Interior design. Majorly back in the spotlight with collaborations/reproductions/adaptations (not sure which to call it) involving Signature Prints and Cadrys.

Polli are a Sydney-based design duo mainly known for their intricate and original jewellery, who also do a delicate and eclectic mix of homewares and decorations. They are strongly influenced by local Australian flora and fauna in many of their designs.

The Gum Tree Display jewellery stand is made from plantation pine and uses the timeless silhouette of Aussie native gum trees, cockatoos and cheeky little possums. Lucky the one in our roof has moved out or I might be tempted to use a harsher word than ‘cheeky’. Be sure to check out their other Australiana designs in stainless steel, gold and Wooden jewellery. Their wooden Lyrebird brooch is on my birthday wish list!

Of course, if you have a jewellery stand, you will require a few pieces to hang on it…

For a cool collection of vintage Australian travel posters, if you are in Perth, why not check out the well-hidden Industriart. There are so many awesome artefacts in this place that I will be dedicating a whole post to it very soon! I predict it won’t stay a secret for very long.

Have a great Australia Day wherever you are - be happy, healthy and don’t get too burnt!
